Our poster is out!! 

I feel it's still a bit amateur but its still a lot better then what I can edit with photoshop!! The good thing is that its different from the other group cause ours have colour. Who says has Noir can only be black and white! Well do come and view our short Noir film on the 19th Dec 2013!!   

Last week of filming!!!

Its finally the last week of filming! I never thought it was gonna be this fast. For this week we ended our filming with the killing part and also our unexpected ending.

We filmed two parts. The first was Ignus killing both the girls and the chasing part. And the second part Tyler and Ignus fighting to the death!! Which is a secret to who won the fight.

The Pangkor trip!!

All in all the Pangkor trip was a good experience, we didn't get to do much on that trip cause most of the time it was raining and we couldn't film in the rain cause it would damage the mask but we did make a lot of new friend there. On the first day it was mostly traveling and then free and easy for us sem 2 students.

On the second day we had to follow our juniors on a treasure hunt around the island. We rod our bicycles thought the *mountain* and then into town and look for clues. It was a long, hot and tiring day. The sun was burning hot and being the idiot I was I didn't use sunblock and got a sunburn on my arms and neck :D

conclusion it was more of a holiday for us then work. Had a good time and special thanks to Mr Charles for planning it!

The WEEK before PANGKOR!!!! :D

Well this week is a more relax week for us. We didn't shoot much. All we did was the Stabbing scene again and the viewing of the reporter scene on a laptop. Due to the absents of Fariz (Tyler) our main character he had to go back to his home in Rawang all week so we cant really do anything about it.

The stabbing scene was done in Maegan's house.

We were only trying out the stabbing part and here is a short glimpse of it.

REPORT 08 OCT!

Report

Well for this week we had to pick it up cause we are so behind on time! We had to re-shoot so many parts because the old one was all from a boring angle. So this week we re- shoot the under ground part where Tyler meets with the girls to try and get them to help him. I personally don't like this location. First its bloody hot and second it's bloody hot. We all sweated so much, this movie has cause so much blood sweat and tears literally a lot of blood and sweat! Well besides that the lighting in the room is very hard to play around with but then we found a way to work smart by just using a phone flash light and just zoom into our faces when we were filming. This part all of us hard to be in it so Joe(Sarah's bf) was the one with the camera. I'm not planning to upload the video because it will review too much of the story.

But for the others there are short clips!

We also shoot a lot of shoot scene to fill up the gaps we has for our movies. Like the card trick scene, the illusion scene and the planning scene.

The planning scene 

was different from the rest of the scenes and it was very easy to do. We used the light box in the POD room and place the plan on the light box. So all the light is only coming from the table. This gives a very mysterious look to their faces. Here are some pictures to show

Also we did the starting scene about a guy finding a scroll that tells the whole story! 

For this part Sarah's boyfriend is playing the role of the person who found the scroll. All the light is only coming from the lighter, and the walls are made of some brown paper me and Maegan painted on and smashed up to give the rough effect.

This week we started to work better as a group everyone is starting to carry their own weights and put in afford and not just ditch us most of the time and zone out when we are doing work. For what I contributed is almost the same like everyone in our group, we film when we aren't acting or help out with the lighting. Ideas are all discuss before we start filming because the last time when we were only discussing when we are filming a lot of problem came flying out. That's for this week! Thanks for reading! :D

Contextual approach part 2!!

Select 2 scenes, explain and describe the changes or enhancement that took place and how they affect the overall narrative.

For the first scene I picked the reporter part.

In my opinion this scene is scary as F***! It gave me the creeps but that what Mr Charles likes so I guess we just have to make our taste of filming weirder then normal. In this scene we only use one lighting which is a yellow spot light just to see her face and the status at the background just to give the creep feel to it. we took from two different angles but this video only shows from one angle. 


For the next scene I picked the killing part!!!

This scene is the hardest in my opinion so far. There were so many problems!!! The lighting, the space, the angles and the worst part is the heat! We had to retake the video so many times. But for this part I like to focus on the last few second when Tyler was stabbing Ignis. We had to try countless of times to get the shadow size right and the right angle so only the shadow can be seen and not the person. This has a mysterious effect and also violent yet not at the same time.

Production week 1!!

First days of production!!


The first few shooting wasn't that bad. we faced a lot of problems like the lighting and the sound.
Our first shooting was last Saturday. We shoot the part where Tyler is meeting Umbra and Ardillia at the underground basement/ vent area. Using the light from the upper vent room to light up the one we were in. Playing with sounds and the angle of the camera to make tricks.
The second day of filming...
AS PROOF 
Yesterday we were filming the new reports part.
So here is all we got so far, combine into one.

most of the places we film were outdoor and at night so there wasn't any power points to use. So we used the light from the background or the lights from our car or the flask from the camera.


On the second day we were doing the part where Tyler, Umbra and Ardillia were driving to where they think Ignis is. Taking from the underground parking, I recorded them driving out of the underground parking and from the inside as well. After that we went to the open car park to film the chasing part. Where Tyler chased Ignis. We filmed from many different angle. From a far, from Tyler's point of view, from Ignis's point of view and from the front view. Unfortunately i felt down half way through and had to rush back to get medical help. 



We did it in a class room but use the white background to make it more professional. Here we didnt have a lot of problem but the echo sound in the background so we are planning to edit the sound and rerecord the sound again. Here is the last video. 

My experience working with my group members. So far there wasn't a lot of drama yet, but we take a long time to get work done. Some get distracted a lot and as for me i cant stay out very late. So there are a number of obstacles in our way but so far everything is going not too bad.

Making 2D objects look 3D!

 

The angle from where the camera shoots from is the key in making a piece of board look 3D. The shading of the drawing on the board is also important in making the drawing 3D.

Playing with shadows to make illusions.

This part we are using objects and shadows to make the head for the audience at the back. The back will be very dark and blur, only the silhouette will be seen. Hence looking like a huge audience is present.

2) Select 1 or 2 scenes and explain how film noir contributes to design in the context of visual communication, multimedia or interior design; whichever applies to taste or preference.

This part has a huge noir role in the film. The scene is very dark and only parts of the interior is exposed to light. In this scene Tyler is meeting up with Umbra and Ardillia to talk about their plan on how to kill Ignis. They thought the shadows and secret room would allow them to talk openly and secretly but what they didn't know is they are also at a disadvantage because Ignis is a master of shadows and is hiding in the shadow while listening to their plan.


3) State your opinion critically about the current composition value and discuss the metaphors and analogies used in the narrative and what they represent

This verse is when Simon Peter pulls out his sword to defend Jesus but Jesus told him to sheath the sword because "Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

In our film how Ignis dies in the end cause of his most trusted disciple who killed him.You live by illusions you die by illusions... How he uses it for evil and kidnapping, it was all used back on him. How Umbra and Ardillia attacked Ignis with illusions and finally Tyler kill him once and for all.

Story board! and naratives!

INTRO : 
~ The scene opens at present time. 
- a plain black scene appears 
- a match stick is being lit by an adventurous traveller in an ancient pyramid
- He starts reading the ancient hieroglyphs on the walls
- Suddenly the markings of a man appears and a brick opens, leading to an open compartment.
- It contains a scroll.... our story begins.

SCENE 1 (as the narrator reads, the scene goes back to past times) :
- The picture of a happy family of 3 appears
- Ignis Whittle - main character Nicholas Lim is introduced
- Suddenly, the picture starts to have drips of blood all over it
- The scene fades to black and we are standing over a graveyard, with Ignis's kneeling by the tombstones of his parents. There is anger in his eyes.
- Ignis starts to isolate himself from his friends and society, practicing on his magic tricks and illusions.

SCENE 2
- Ignis comes out of the shadows, suited up, and started performing to attract peoples attention.
- He gained more and more followers over time
- Focus is shifted to Tyler, who is amongst the crowd, bewildered by Ignis's magic tricks.
-Tyler joins Ignis's disciples and becomes his most trusted follower to a point where Ignis teaches Tyler his tricks.

SCENE 3
- Ignis has a big trick in mind, he tells Tyler his master plan out of trust
- His master plan is to hypnotise everyone into emotionless human beings because he believes true happiness doesn't exist (based on past experience) and eventually kidnapping them to be his followers
- He prepares his trick, and hypnotises his audience
- At a snap of his finger, the scene turns pitch black

SCENE 4
- The news report is turned on, and the reporter states that there are mass amount of disappearance happening lately.
- As the reports keep going on, Tyler switches off the tv.
- He cups his face with his hands in dismay as he hears reports of families being in pain that their loved ones have disappeared.
- His soft side kicks in and he decided to act on it by planning with Umbra and Ardillia (fellow followers of Ignis) to overthrow Ignis and set things right.
- The 3 of them (ardillia, umbra and tyler) meet up and plot their attack
- Ignis over heard their plot to kill him and prepares for their attack.

SCENE 5
- Ignis goes to bed earlier, and Tyler slowly approaches Ignis and stabs him.
- It turns out that the "ignis" in bed was just an illusion
- The girls (Ardillia and Umbra) comes into the room
- As they close to door, the real Ignis appears behind them
- They approached Ignis, Ignis claps his hands and all 3 disappeared from the room and appeared at the lake nearly falling into it.
-It was in Tyler's intuition that Ignis would be at the main base, thus they rushed to him, via car.

SCENE 6
- They approached the meeting base and saw that Ignis was there
- Tyler and Ignis got into an argument and Tyler got mad and tried to stab Ignis
- Ignis disappeared and reappeared behind him near the two girl and kills them.
- After that he ran and threw razor sharp cards towards Tyler, and Tyler returned by throwing knives at Ignis
- Ignis got injured and tripped and fell.
- Tyler stabs Ignis, thus killing him.

ENDING
- Tyler stares at the dead Ignis startled at what he had done
- An idea sparks in Tyler's brain. Greed, power, domination filled his heart.
- He decides to take over the cult
- He becomes the new Ignis.
